Highways Maintenance, M25

road maintenance

SkyBlue sourced 30 skilled workers for Carillion in just seven days after its existing labour supplier abruptly stopped trading.

The assembled team are now working on behalf of Carillion plc and the Highways Agency to maintain one of the busiest stretches of the UK motorway system. Area 5 of the M25.

SkyBlue workers are responsible for clearance operations, including grass and brush cutting; and litter picking at the roadside - ultimately helping to deliver the Highway’s Agency vision of ‘Safe Roads, Reliable Journeys, Informed Travellers’.

The M25 sphere is one of the busiest parts of the network and includes junctions with all key London approach roads. Maintaining the road environment to the highest standards has a direct impact on its safety and efficiency.

With 20 years specific experience in this sector and an understanding of the kind of people able to work safely in that environment, SkyBlue was an obvious solution for Carillion.

“Highways maintenance is an inherently dangerous occupation, especially when working adjacent to moving traffic,” says Head of Operations at SkyBlue, Richard Toy.

“In all situations safety is paramount, which is why we are active in promoting and refreshing safety awareness and safe working practices across all our people.”

“We also welcome the increasing level of regulation and professionalism in the industry and support our people to obtain qualifications that will help them progress within it.”

SkyBlue were among the first labour suppliers to the Highways sector to instigate LANTRA training and the company continuously strives to extend the range of courses it offers staff and workers.

“Having met the immediate needs of Carillion and its client, we’ve set about meeting its more long term objectives for a safe, high quality and reliable workforce supplied within pre-existing contract terms and costs.

“This is a five year contract with an option to extend for two years and we’re confident that the service provided will further strengthen Carillion’s ability to tender for future Highways Agency work,” concludes Richard.
